Second graders discuss STEM project with students in Kansas

The 2nd grade classes at Zoller Elementary received a grant from the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation to participate in the 2018 Gingerbread Communities STEM project http://gingerbreadstemcommunity.weebly.com/.

All three classes researched local businesses and important places in our urban community, and learned about goods and services. Based on their research, the students worked in small groups with their teachers as well as parent volunteers to construct gingerbread buildings that represent the businesses and important places.

Mrs. Ferguson's class recently participated in a “google meeting” with Mrs. Hachen’s 2nd grade class from Andover, Kansas.

The children shared what they learned through their research, and were able to learn about the community of Andover Kansas from their partner school. They also discussed their structures and asked each other questions about the weather, their state, and what they do for fun!

Both classes enjoyed the experience.
